Holidays in Breckenridge
Breckenridge, Colorado is the perfect spot to start your wintery break. It becomes an outdoor paradise. Breckenridge receives almost more snow than any other place in Colorado. With five huge peaks, you will find entertainment for the entire family.  Intermediate and advanced skiers can take American’s highest chairlift, the Imperial Express SuperChair, rising 12,480 feet above sea level to almost the top of Peak 8. It has a vertical rise of 939 feet in just under 3 minutes. For beginner skiers, or those who don’t even ski, you can take the Breckenridge Gondola, which by the way, is free, up to the base of Peak 8. The gondola rises over 391 feet and takes 13 glorious minutes to the base of the peak. You will have three stations to unboard along the way. The ride is fully enclosed, making this a great option for families, even your pets are welcome aboard. Be sure to enjoy the mountains views, or look for moose, fox, and bald eagle on your way up. At the base of Peak 7 you will find my favorite restaurant, Sevens. They have amazing hamburgers and truffle fries. Even if you aren’t hungry, be sure to stop here and take in the views. At the base of peak 8, there are more restaurants and activities. Do not miss out on this gondola ride, even if you just go for the free ride and the breathtaking views. A roundtrip ride, without disembarking will give you 26 glorious minutes of beauty.

Activities
Breckenridge, weather dependent, you may find snowmobiling, dog sledding, winter fly fish, cross-country skiing, fat bike tours, sledding, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, ATV tours, and ziplining. Of course there is always shopping at the over 200 boutiques and shops, local cuisine, fine dining, art classes, workshops, a movie theatre, historical walking tours, a distillery tour, and an escape room to keep you entertained. Everything in Breckenridge is within walking distance, as almost all of downtown is located within 7 blocks. For those wanting transportation, Breckenridge doesn’t disappoint with its Free Ride public transportation service.

Breckenridge Ski Resort typically opens early to mid-November, depending on the weather, and snow tends to accumulate somewhere around, or shortly after Thanksgiving (of course this is seasonal and can change). Even if you arrive and there is no snow, you can still hike at nearby trails, but be sure to check the muddy meter to see which trails are open for exploration. Wear good hiking boots, as trails can be slippery and snowy the higher you go (speaking from experience).

Downtown Main Street and Lodging
To warm your holiday spirit, the town of Breckenridge is beautifully decorated. You can also find sitting on your lodge sofa, watching the snow fall, can be quite cozy too. Or maybe you will want to wander outside to make a snowman. Whatever you chose to fulfill your holiday season, you will find comfort in the many great lodges and places to stay.  You may want to consider one of the condos or townhouses with underground heated garages or even your own garage, so you don’t have to shovel snow off your vehicle. Many of them have washer and dryers to keep your clothes clean and dry for the wintery conditions. With so many choices, you’ll be sure to find one that you will love. My personal favorite are the townhomes at Mountain Thunder Lodge. It’s conveniently located near town and the gondola. Its set in a rustic mountain setting, are beautifully decorated, extremely cozy, have full kitchens, and can fit families needing 1-3 bedrooms. You feel like you have your very own home in the most incredible setting.

Exploration
Ready to get outside of Breckenridge. The alpine village of Vail, known as one of America’s wealthiest small towns, is nearby and worth a visit. It’s only 36 miles away, but remember in winter, that can mean an hour drive. It too has world renowned skiing, many shops, restaurants, luxurious accommodations, and breathtaking mountain views.
